A suede jacket is certainly a timeless piece for any wardrobe, and it just never seems to go out of style. The only thing I don’t like is the fact that you can’t get it wet, which is a bummer if you get caught in the rain or it starts to smell and dry cleaning is very expensive. What do you recommend keeping the jacket fresh smelling without having to clean to often?

Hi Michel,
Thank you for your comments.
One of the most important things you should do is regularly air the suede jacket out. I would also suggest the use of a suede brush to brush your jacket, this not only removes dust, which can trap odors. Never use any harsh chemicals or spray the jacket with water or other products. For stubborn odors, the best suggestion is to dry clean with a cleaner that specializes in suede and leather.
Hope this. helps.

Oh, the allure of suede, I love the velvety texture and it’s rich rich appearance. It is a favorite in my wardrobe, despite its notorious impracticality. Unfortunately, I recently had an accident in a restaurant. A friend spilled red wine on my cherished suede skirt. Can this be salvaged? If so, how should I proceed?

Hi Catherine,
Thanks for your comments and questions.
Oh, no! I’m sorry to hear about your skirt. I’m going to assume that the stain has dried. Sadly, the longer it takes before you tackle the problem, the more red wine sinks into the fabric and settles. This will, of course, make it even harder to remove. At this point, I would suggest taking it to a dry cleaner who specializes in suede and leather.
If it were a fresh stain (just happened), I would suggest blotting up any excess wine. Mixing a solution of lukewarm water and mild soap, make the solution foam before applying it to the stain with a sponge. You would then use a damp sponge to rinse and then blot to dry.
There are other methods, such as using baking soda, but I would suggest that if you cannot remove it using mild lukewarm water and mild soap solution, it may be best to consult a suede and leather specialist.
Hope this helps

Your styling tips, especially pairing suede jackets with cozy knits and tailored pants, are spot-on for the season. I’m curious do you have any advice on maintaining suede jackets to keep them looking fresh and elegant over time? Proper care is always a concern with such delicate fabrics.
Thank you for sharing such an inspiring take on fall fashion! It’s hard not to fall in love with the understated sophistication of suede, and now I’m even more tempted to add one to my wifes wardrobe for Christmas.

Hi Alan,
Thank you for your comment and question.
I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed the post. To maintain suede jackets, it’s best to use a suede brush to brush them regularly. This helps not only remove dust and debris but also reduces the odor that is picked up by the dust. The other suggestion is to air it out. It keeps it looking fresh, and it’s good for the fibers. Scents in fabrics, especially suede, will build up as a result of wearing them or when they are stored in tightly closed spaces. Airing them out is a great remedy.
Hope this helps.
