Tropical CityScapes the inspiration for Akris Punto Spring 2018
HIROSHI NAGAI’S TROPICAL CITYSCAPES
Japanese artist and illustrator Hiroshi Nagai is the inspiration for Akris Punto’s Spring 2018 collection. The artist was raised on the countryside of Tokushima Prefecture. In addition to his paintings he created great album covers of Japanese pop music.
His start in painting was due to his father, who painted beautiful scenery as a hobby. Nagai moved to Tokyo City to study art, but, did not pass the art school examination. Instead, he opted to study fashion illustration but learned quickly it was not his passion. So he decided to use his artistic talents painting backdrops for film sets and stages.
Nagai’s style is influenced by American Pop Art, hyperrealism and surrealism. His inspiration is drawn upon from the works of surrealist artists Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte and David Hockney. You will see from his work that he incorporates many aspects of these influences.
In his more current work you will find elements of palm trees and a series dedicated his love of soul music.
Akris Punto’s Spring 2018 Collection projects the beauty of American Pop Art with surrealism which is the essence of Nagai’s work.
Hiroshi recalls a flight to the US as a major influence: “Just before our plane arrived, I saw small blue spots around the town down below. As the plane descended, I realized they were swimming pools. The view left a vivid impression, which inspired me to draw paintings of those swimming pools.” Dive into summer with shades of pink and purple orchid, paired with black denim, cream and indigo. Shimmering 3-D sequins and laser-cut embellishments add a playful touch.
You’ll discover delicate elements of laser cuts, vivid colors, 3D details, soft light reflection embedded in great style details that will be on your must-have list for this season.
